Dental crowns are great dental restorations that can restore the health, strength, and function of a weak, broken, and damaged tooth. They can even enhance your smile’s appearance! If you’re about to restore a tooth with a dental crown, then our dentist, Dr. Henry Bowman, is happy to help you prepare for the treatment. The steps you can expect while you’re in the dental chair include:
Step No. 1: Your dentist will ensure a comfortable experience by numbing the mouth with a local anesthetic. Then, he will shave some of the tooth enamel to make room for the new restoration.
Step No. 2: Once your tooth is the right size and shape, it is now called an abutment. Your dentist will take measurements of the abutment (usually done by taking impressions) and will send that information to dental lab technicians who will craft your new replacement tooth. While you wait, your dentist will cover your abutment with a temporary crown so you can still use it.
Step No. 3: When the crown is made and sent to our office, you will come back for a follow-up appointment. At this appointment, your dentist will secure the dental crown over your abutment with special dental cement.
